while piracy in western hemisphere has been largely eliminated still problem in south east asia. international maritime bureau (imb) reports worldwide pirate attacks fell third year in row in 2006. attacks on ships @ sea in 2006 fell 239 vessels, down 276 in 2005. same trend echoed in strait of malacca attacks dropped 79 in 2005 50 in 2006. nonetheless, in 2004, region accounted 40% of piracy worldwide. imb reported in october 2007 indonesia continued world s pirate-struck region 37 attacks since january 2007, though improvement same nine-month period of 2006. while there has been drop in south east asia there has been rise of acts of piracy groups based out of somalia attacking many ships.
