holyrood church 1 of original 5 churches serving walled town. built in 1320, church destroyed enemy bombing during blitz in november 1940. in 1957 shell of church dedicated memorial sailors of merchant navy. in 2004, received funding heritage lottery fund , merchant navy association make remaining structure more stable , usable.

st. michael s church thought have been commenced in 1070, building has been added many times on centuries central tower dates norman times.


st. mary s church

st. mary s church largest church in city , can trace origins first saxon settlements of 7th century.
