fire departments in jcfs use unified numbering system, makes dispatching , radio transmissions lot easier. numbering system consists of 4 digits, , seeing these 4 digits, firefighter can tell department, type of unit, , number of unit given vehicle. many other counties surrounding jefferson county in kentucky use numbering system or similar one.
the first , second digits of 4-digit number represent department. department numbers include:
defunct department numbers include 30 (dixie suburban), 35 (south dixie), 44 (edgewood), , 60 (black mudd).
third digit
old numbering system
the third digit of 4-digit number represents type of unit.
new numbering system
the jcfs has made official updated numbering system. quite similar old numbering system, few changes. though of units have change number have not done yet, soon.
the fourth digit of 4-digit number represents unit number. departments use number of station truck located at, while others pick , choose number.
