Career Kalki Krishnamurthy

in 1923 joined sub-editor @ navasakthi, tamil periodical edited tamil scholar , freedom fighter thiru. v. kalyanasundaram, popularly known thiru vi. ka . krishnamurthy s first book published in 1927. leaving navasakthi in 1928, krishnamurthy stayed c. rajagopalachari @ gandhi ashram in tiruchengode in salem district , helped him edit vimochanam, tamil journal devoted propagating prohibition. in 1931, again imprisoned 6 months. next year krishnamurthy joined ananda vikatan, humour weekly edited , published s. s. vasan.

krishnamurthy s witty, incisive comments on politics, literature, music , other forms of art looked forward unceasing interest readers. wrote under pen names of kalki , ra. ki , tamil theni , karnatakam , on. vikatan published many of short stories , novels (as serials). in 1941, left ananda vikatan, , rejoined freedom struggle , courted arrest.

upon release after 3 months , sadasivam started magazine kalki. editor until death on 5 december 1954. success krishnamurthy attained in realm of historical fiction phenomenal. @ time when literacy level low , when english-educated tamils looked down on writings in tamil, kalki s circulation touched 71,000 copies – largest weekly in county – when serialised historical novels. semmalar, monthly organ of tamil nadu progressive writers association, brought out special number commemorate kalki s birth centenary. kalki wrote script , lyrics meera, m.s. subbulakshmi starrer.
