after 2000, general consensus reached new bridges in belgrade necessity. belgrade doubled after 1974 when last bridge (gazela) built. pančevački rit area, has experienced tenfold population growth since pančevo bridge built, things getting more serious city government has plans (though distant ones) move belgrade port left bank , begin project of third belgrade in area 300,000-400,000 inhabitants (the first 1 old belgrade in Šumadija; second new belgrade, novi beograd-zemun in syrmia).


at moment, 1 bridge considered in bad shape, result of lack of maintenance , overuse. public debate grew (not bridge) in both expert , lay circles, point of publicly expressing views in mass media on daily basis future belgrade bridges. city government plans complete reconstruction of pančevo bridge , build 3 more bridges on danube, alleviate traffic pressure on it. 1 bridge supposed built downstream, connect belgrade suburb of vinča omoljica in pančevo municipality. second bridge projected 1.5 kilometers downstream pančevo bridge , connect ada huja , krnjača. third bridge built upstream , connect neighborhoods of zemun , borča. until last bridge finished, city government has proposed ferry line instead.


however, of december 2012, works on zemun-borča bridge have begun, finished in 2014 , renamed pupin bridge. reconstruction of pančevo bridge has been scheduled , postponed several times since 2006. far, been announced how reconstruction handled. supposed last 12 months. rail traffic closed during time. beovoz stop on approaches bridge , buses take passengers other side. bridge never closed road traffic, because cut belgrade s connection across danube. rail tracks temporary turned traffic lanes, mean bridge have 6 lanes in period , 2 closed reconstruction. freight traffic allowed @ night.


pančevo bridge partially renovated in 2008-10. main steel grid-like construction beneath carriageways repaired, while parts replaced or strengthen. main girders sandblasted , painted.
