Biography Don Buchla

buchla series 100 (1963/1966–1969)

beginning in 1990s, buchla began designing alternative midi controllers, such thunder, lightning, , marimba lumina. recent resurgence of interest in analog synthesizers buchla has released revamped 200 series called 200e.

in 2005, nime-05 (5th international conference on new interfaces musical expression), in vancouver, canada, featured keynote lecture don buchla. there sizable exhibition of many of instruments , team have created on years.

in 2012, buchla s intellectual property acquired australian holding company, audio supermarket, started new brand called buchla electronic musical instruments (bemi). mr. buchla retained chief technology officer.

in 2015, reported don buchla had taken owners of bemi court, citing health problems due in part unpaid consulting fees , asserting claim original intellectual property. lawsuit alleged breach of contract , bad-faith conduct on part of bemi s owners , sought $500,000 in compensation.

legal documents filed state of california indicate court ordered case settled arbitration in july 2015. in august 2016, court dismissed case in light of fact parties had reached out-of-court settlement.

buchla died @ age of 79 on september 14, 2016 of complications cancer.
