the caritas figure


the figure group carved in wood german wood carver statius otto in elsinore casts afterwards made in bronze. figures depict greatest of 3 theological virtues, love or charity (caritas in latin), symbolised pregnant mother children. figures stand on column in copper basin. copper basin raised above lower basin on stone pillar. female figure sprays water breasts while little boy pees basin. 1857 1940, these holes sealed, out of deference sensibilities of time.
