the success of south caradon mine encouraged frenzy of speculative prospecting in area; , availability of transport market further encouraged this. while of exploration turned out fruitless, there many finds well. west caradon mine productive, on hill opposite south caradon. mine owners constructed tramway on inclined plane reach down l&cr cheesewring branch opposite crow s nest, 1849. standard gauge on gradient of 1 in 6, , 480 feet (146 m) long.
