the airline established luís h. coulson along captain juan fernando mesa, captain orlando botero escobar , captain anibal obando echeverri. started operations on 11 march 1973. douglas dc-6a four-engined piston freight airliner formed part of initial fleet acquired. these retired in 1980s.


martinair of netherlands acquired 40% stake in tampa cargo in 1996. avianca of colombia acquired 100% stake in tampa cargo in 2008. airline re-branded avianca cargo in may 2013.
