Paleobiology Eosuchus

osteoderms

the strata both species of eosuchus have been found though have formed in marginal marine depositional environment, , reflect actual environments these animals have inhabited. has been proposed gavialoids salt-tolerant coastal forms, , evidence seen in case of eosuchus consistent theory. 1 specimen of e. minor aquia formation, usnm 299730, has fossil oyster attached dorsal surface of rostrum.

the fact 2 species of eosuchus lived on either side of atlantic ocean implies these populations may have been separated geographically 1 while not having separated stratigraphically (that is, if temporal ranges of 2 species coincide 1 another). more importantly, separate biogeographic ranges of 2 species may evidence transoceanic dispersal event 1 continent other. since presumed ages of localities specimens have been found quite similar yet inexact, unknown continent dispersal event may have originated. recent reevaluation of holotype material of e. lerichei, in past has been poorly studied, suggests more basal species , have been ancestor of e. minor in europe.
