in mid-december, isil launched assault on palmyra, taking full control of city syrian army withdrew. isil started advancing westwards palmyra tiyas military airbase (also called al-taifor , t4 airbase) after city s capture, , besieged it.


clashes continued around airbase until end of december, when isil s assault repelled. in january 2017, reported isil withdrawing areas around airbase.
