founding years

hermann franke founded sheet metal business in name in rorschach, switzerland, in 1911. in late 1920s economic upturn in industry , construction sector led incorporation of sanitary installations department. franke began production of oven tops, skylights , dormer windows.

in 1930s franke started production of first sink units in nickeline, monel-metal , later in stainless steel. franke built new factory offices , residential building, , company s ten employees relocated aarburg, switzerland. franke initiated first production series , first welded, smooth sink unit.

hermann franke died on january 25, 1939, , son walter took on business. second world war led great difficulties in obtaining materials. during years after war company s factory facilities expanded , production of complete kitchens began. franke started export products european countries.

expansion years

the construction sector developed encouragingly. business expanded rapidly. franke became leader in state-of-the-art kitchen sinks. in 1950 washroom , sanitary equipment product group firmly established part of franke full range of products communal washrooms , wcs. production of components propulsion systems began. franke saw first foreign investment in germany , 1955 had 500 employees.

in late 1950s, franke s production doubled. factory facilities expanded further. commercial kitchens division founded. 1961 franke had 750 employees.

over next twelve years franke experienced rapid growth: 13 new subsidiaries established , 2 companies began manufacturing under license. in 1972, franke built , installed first kitchen mcdonald s in munich. 1974 company had 2,600 employees. in 1975 franke ownership changes: walter franke s friend , business partner willi pieper took over. 4 subsidiaries , 2 licensees added group. in 1979 world-famous franke compact sink system introduced. in late 1980s divisional organization established.

today

michael pieper joined group management in 1989. rapid , consistent expansion transformed franke corporate group worldwide operations. today franke consists of approx. 10,500 employees in on 70 companies in europe, south america, north america, africa, australia , asia.

by adopting policy of investment in innovation , technology, franke has established position largest stainless steel sink manufacturer in world today.
