may hill made racecourse debut on 6 furlongs @ ascot racecourse on 9 october in duke of edinburgh stakes (not current race of same name) two-year-old colts , fillies had not run before 22 september. ridden welsh jockey geoff lewis, started 20/1 outsider produced impressive burst of acceleration in closing stages win length colt red lever, conceding 8 pounds.

1975: three-year-old season

may hill took time reach best form in 1975. on seasonal debut contested fred darling stakes on 7 furlongs @ newbury racecourse in april , finished second, beaten 3 lengths italian-trained filly carnauba. bypassed 1000 guineas @ newmarket racecourse , reappeared in musidora stakes on ten , half furlongs @ york racecourse in may. in previous appearance, looked short of peak condition , finished second, produced better performance , beaten head winner moonlight night.

on 7 june, may hill contested 197th running of oaks stakes @ epsom. looking unsuited firm ground, turned straight in eleventh place , although made sty progress in closing stages finished distant fourth behind juliette marny, val s girl , moonlight night. filly returned winning form in minor race on mile , half @ haydock park racecourse, winning opponent. in august @ york racecourse, may hill faced juliette marny again in yorkshire oaks, , started @ odds of 4/1. ridden pat eddery, won race 1 , half lengths light duty, juliette marny in third. result confirmed after stewsrds inuiry possible interference caused when may hill hung left in closing stages.

in september, may hill moved in distance park hill stakes on fourteen , half furlongs @ doncaster racecourse. starting @ odds of 13/8 restrained eddery of race before taking lead 2 furlongs finish , winning impressively 1 , half lengths irish-trained filly tuscarora. later month, may hill sent france contest prix vermeille @ longchamp racecourse. started 4/1 third favourite , ran well, proved no match 2 leading french fillies , finished third, beaten 1 , half lengths , 8 lengths ivanjica , nobiliary.

1976: four-year-old season

may hill remained in training four-year-old, , campaigned in staying races, failed win in 5 attempts. on seasonal debut finished third marco ricci , major green in paradise stakes on 2 miles @ ascot in may , ran second on next appearance. sustained serious injury when running third behind mr bigmore in lymm stakes @ haydock. off racecourse until autumn, when best of 2 runs came when finished third bright finish , shangamuzo in jockey club cup.
