in 1432 estates gained principality of brunswick-wolfenbüttel between deister , leine split away principality of calenberg. north new state bordered on county of hoya near nienburg , extended there in narrow, winding strip southwards river leine through wunstorf , hanover reached principality of wolfenbüttel. in 1495 expanded around göttingen , in 1584 went wolfenbüttel line. in 1634, result of inheritance distributions, went house of lüneburg, before becoming independent principality again in 1635, when given george, younger brother of prince ernest ii of lüneburg, chose hanover residenz. new territory added in 1665 in vicinity of grubenhagen , in 1705 around principality of lüneburg. in 1692 duke ernest augustus calenberg line acquired right prince-elector prince-elector of brunswick-lüneburg. colloquially electorate known electorate of hanover or kurhannover. in 1814 succeeded kingdom of hanover.
