log harvesting in 2006 18.8 million m, down 22.5 million m in 2003. projected rise high 30 million m newer forests mature. value of forestry exports (logs, chips, sawn timber, panels , paper products) year ended 31 march 2006 $nz 3.62 billion. projected rise $4.65 billion 2011. australia accounts on 25% of export value, paper products, followed japan, south korea, china , united states. within new zealand economy, forestry accounts approximately 4% of national gdp. on global stage, new zealand forestry industry relatively small contributor in terms of production, accounting 1% of global wood supply industrial purposes.
