the jsa prohibits professionals playing computers in public without prior permission, reason of promoting shogi , monetizing computer–human events.
on october 12, 2010, after 35 years of development, computer beat professional player, when top ranked female champion ichiyo shimizu beaten akara2010 system in game lasting on 6 hours.
on july 24, 2011, computer shogi programs bonanza , akara crushed amateur team of kosaku , shinoda in 2 games. allotted time amateurs 1 hour , 3 minutes per move. allotted time computer 25 minutes , 10 seconds per move.
on april 20, 2013, gps shogi defeated 8-dan professional shogi player hiroyuki miura in 102-move game lasted on 8 hours.
the highest rated player on shogi club 24 computer program ponanza, rated 3455 on december 13, 2015.
on april 10, 2016, ponanza defeated takayuki yamasaki, 8-dan in 85 moves. takayuki used 7 hours 9 minutes.
