12 september 2009 — berja sierra nevada, 175 km

this undoubtedly queen stage of 2009 vuelta. special-category alto de sierra nevada @ finish is, @ 2,520 metres, highest point reached in race. far course has offer - deceptively difficult , steep third-category alto de berja comes , followed first-category puerto de la ragua. vuelta has never before gone on puerto de la ragua side, , more difficult climbing opposite side. first-category climb, alto de monachil, occurs near end of stage, though halfway point alto de sierra nevada.

16 september 2009 — ciudad real talavera de la reina, 175 km

this vuelta s last mountain stage. includes 2 passes on first-category puerto de navacerrada, second of crests 17 km finish. there quite lot of descending on stage, 4 categorized climbs begin , end @ same elevation. finish comes on descent last pass on puerto de navacerrada.
