in 1998, schlessinger in costa mesa surf shop son when began perusing skateboarding magazine big brother. on radio program, schlessinger declared magazine stealth pornography. when owner of store publicly denied found pornography in store, schlessinger sued him lying, claiming denial had hurt reputation. when case went court, judge dismissed suit, shop owner s $4 million defamation countersuit lodged hurting reputation of store allowed stand. suit has since been settled, terms of settlement have not been revealed.

in 1998, schlessinger s radio mentor, bill ballance, sold nude photos of schlessinger company specializing in internet porn. photos taken in mid-1970s while schlessinger involved in brief affair then-married ballance. schlessinger sued after photos posted on internet, claiming invasion of privacy , copyright violation. court ruled schlessinger did not own rights photos. did not appeal ruling. told radio audience embarrassed, photos taken when going through divorce , had no moral authority.

on august 10, 2010, nita hanson, black woman married white man, called schlessinger s show ask advice on how deal husband did not care when subject of racist comments acquaintances. schlessinger first replied people hypersensitive , asked examples caller. hanson informed schlessinger acquaintances had stated, how black people this? black people doing that. schlessinger responded examples not racist , lot of blacks voted obama because half black. didn t matter going in office; black thing. gotta know that. s not surprise. schlessinger continued telling caller had chip on [her] shoulder, sensitive, , also, don t naacp me, and, lot of hear black think… s distressing , disturbing.
