in 2008, boyd earned ph.d. @ uc berkeley school of information, advised peter lyman (1940–2007) , mizuko ito (aka mimi ito). dissertation, taken out of context: american teen sociality in networked publics, focused on use of large social networking sites such facebook , myspace u.s. teenagers, , blogged on boing boing.
during 2006–07 academic year, boyd fellow @ annenberg center communication @ university of southern california. long-time fellow @ berkman center internet & society @ harvard university, co-directed internet safety technical task force, , served on youth , media policy working group.
