history

worthy fm launched in 2007 replace festival s previous onsite station, radio avalon. name worthy fm chosen festival organiser michael eavis , named after worthy farm, eavis farm , home of festival.

2007

worthy fm started life in same location predecessor, radio avalon, on upper western edge of big ground field, near worthy farm. featured number of different presenters , shows, many focussing in on 1 particular aspect of festival, such emerging talent competition , elemental tent. many guests came station perform on outdoor stage, including bible code sundays, small white light, beathovens , bluebird kid clark, whilst interviews included michael eavis, damian marley, paul weller, seasick steve, proclaimers , bob wilson greenpeace

2008

2008 saw worthy fm return second year, again outdoor wireless stage open members of public. stage featured performances levellers, bluetones, martha wainwright, ron sexsmith , seth lakeman, interviews katy melua, daddy freddy , gilbert o sullivan whilst pre-recorded features covered she-pees, solar showers , green tent pegs.

2009

in 2009, worthy fm compound moved top edge of big ground field, closer worthy farm. placed behind security cordon first time, meaning members of public no longer walk station itself. station s live performances returned being acoustic, , featured appearances guests such stornoway, travelling band , atilla stockbroker. interviewees year included lady gaga, florence , machine, marcus brigstocke, madness, horace andy, steel pulse, status quo , nick clegg. dreadzone claimed have performed first ever acoustic set live on station year.

2010

glastonbury 2010 40th anniversary of glastonbury festival, , of station s content reflected this, shows covering various aspects of festival s history. festival linked bbc radio 6 music on-site, worthy fm crew co-presenting shows on 6 music likes of lauren laverne , steve lamacq. guests interviewed year included damon albarn, scissor sisters, tinchy stryder, toots hibbert, billy bragg, gentleman s dub club , tony benn.

2011

guests , interviewees year included fatboy slim, big boi, noah , whale, young, pixie geldof , guy garvey. station introduced dedicated kids show, focussing on kidzfield section of site, , presented 2 children under 10. kids show featured station s first marriage proposal live on air, happily resulted in engagement. introduction of 1 way system access south-east corner of site @ night, worthy fm carried regular updates on queuing times , alternative things not wishing queue.

2012

there no glastonbury festival in 2012, worthy fm took year off. taking advantage of break, station arranged fact finding crew swap bmir, official onsite radio station of burning man festival, nevada, usa

2013

worthy fm commenced broadcasting 2013 festival on morning of monday 24 june. year, station has second studio located in public area in arcadia, inspired 2012 burning man exchange visit. enabled public walk straight live broadcasts , appear on air themselves. guests , interviews year included mumford , sons, john lydon, orb, sir bruce forsyth, liam gallagher, portishead, bill wyman, congos , bez.
