upon construction of highway 6, known formerly plank road, small village popped around 1855 when charles , david hager bought of land in center of area. david almas owned land on east side of road, while john porter owned land in west end.
the building of canada southern railroad in 1870, , of hamilton , lake erie railway 3 years later helped make hagersville prosperous village in 1879.
close rail crossing junction hotel, later becoming lawson hotel after change in ownership. perhaps best known murph s place when retired nhl player ron murphy took ownership. known hagersville inn, today known old lawson house. in 1852, charles hager built frame hotel @ corner of plank road , indian line. hagersville s first post office in hotel , joseph seymour suggested community called hagersville honour hager brothers.
during world war ii royal canadian air force built , operated no. 16 service flying training school part of british commonwealth air training plan @ 274 concession 11 walpole 3.5 km southwest of hagersville. no. 16 sfts opened on 8 august 1941 , closed on 30 march 1945. after rcaf finished site used canadian army various purposes , known camp hagersville. camp closed in 1964.
