the great popularity of vita christi demonstrated numerous manuscript copies preserved in libraries , manifold editions of have been published, first 2 editions of strasbourg , cologne, in 1474, last editions of paris: folio, 1865, published victor palme (heavily criticised father henry james coleridge, sj; see below), , 8vo, 1878. has been translated catalan (valencia, 1495, folio, gothic), castilian (alcala, folio, gothic), portuguese (1495, 4 vols., folio), italian (1570), french, guillaume lernenand, of order of monseigneur st. françois , under title of great life of christ (lyons, 1487, folio, many times reprinted), d. marie-prosper augustine (paris, 1864), , d. florent broquin, carthusian (paris, 1883).


the vita christi had significant influence on development of techniques christian meditation. although aelred of rievaulx (d. 1167) had introduced concept of immersing , projecting oneself biblical scene in de institutione inclusarum, , st. bonaventure (d. 1274) had borrowed heavily work in lignum vitae, ludolph s massive work (which quoted aelred extensively credited work anselm) helped spread devotional practice devotio moderna community , ignatius of loyola (as discussed below). vita christi translated spanish in 1502 ambrosio montesino , printed in alcala. methods of meditation in vita christi entered spain , known in part of 16th century. st teresa , st francis de sales quote it.
