logansport fort wayne

in logansport us 24 went through logansport. first route of us 24 two-lane undived rural highway north of new four-lane highway logansport peru , south of four-lane highway peru huntington. huntington fort wayne four-lane highway built on two-lane highway.


fort wayne new haven

before us 24 rerouted onto i-69 , i-469, us 24 went through fort wayne. us 24 went through downtown on one-way streets. east of fort wayne us 24 has interchange us 30 , concurrency us 30, known sr 930. us 24 headed downtown new haven, us 30 bypassing downtown new haven. us 24 headed north out of downtown new haven , turned east. in 1980s, us-24 rerouted out of downtown fort wayne, following i-69 north us-30/coliseum boulevard (now sr-930), , following coliseum boulevard around northern edge of city. when southern loop of i-469 opened traffic in 1989, us-24 rerouted onto i-69 south, i-469 current interchange us-24 east of new haven. after original 2-lane alignment bypassed 4-lane freeway east of i-469 in 2012, us-24 rerouted present alignment using northern loop of i-469, via i-69 north.

2008–12 upgrades

fort port first brought in meeting indiana state representative mitch harper, in 1989. project went new haven, indiana toledo, ohio. @ meeting project name fort port born. complex , expensive portion of indiana segment reconstructing parclo interchange interstate 469 in new haven.



(december 2008) completed section of us-24 fort-to-port freeway in eastern indiana. segment opened traffic on october 29, 2009.


in november 2007, indiana announced reduce costs changing segment expressway at-grade intersections @ bruick road, webster road, , sr 101, instead of freeway section interchanges , overpasses. overpasses 2 narrow (12 wide) overpasses non-motorized traffic (amish buggies) cross us 24. also, interchange of i-469 , us 24 remain as-is traffic signals @ us 24 ramp terminals. cost savings without interchanges approximately $75–$80 million. right of way purchased future interchanges. change has been unpopular due safety concerns heavy truck traffic on corridor. indot claims current traffic on us 24 not justify interchanges, though 2005 final eis states does.


responding widespread public outcry on scaled-back design, governor mitch daniels announced on december 12, 2007, us 24 have been built freeway bruick road ohio state line, interchanges @ sr 101 , webster road. intersection bruick road have been at-grade crossing, indot announced in august 2009 grade-separated interchange built here well. indiana s entire 13.5-mile (21.7 km) segment of us-24 completed freeway. interchange i-469, however, unchanged , remained at-grade.


upon completion, ownership of existing us 24 transferred allen county, , become frontage road east of bruick road, providing access b.f. goodrich tire plant , adjacent homes , farmland. indiana financing construction through major moves program, , reimbursed when federal highway funds become available. sections of two-lane road have been bypassed freeway locally signed old us 24.


governor daniels , indot held groundbreaking ceremony indiana section on april 30, 2008. december 2008, crews had completed construction on 2 miles (3.2 km) of freeway ohio state line east of sr 101 interchange. on october 29, 2009, governor daniels , ohio governor ted strickland held ribbon-cutting ceremony @ indiana/ohio state line opening new us 24 highway sr 101 near woodburn, indiana ohio state route 424 near defiance, ohio. project designated completed , final segment opened on november 4, 2012.


interchange i-469

in original plans, indot intended upgrade i-469/us 24 interchange allow high-speed movements between 2 highways documented in fort-to-port final environmental impact statement published in 2005. included building 2,200 feet (700 m) flyover ramp eb 24 sb i-469. 5 years later, no work had been performed on interchange.


in may of 2017, announced modification original plan in process. long proposed flyover being replaced 2 shorter bridges. furthermore interchange going upgraded in 2 phases. initial phase eliminate traffic signal , entail modified flyover, in particular both nb i-469 wb us-24 , eb us-24 nb i-469 converted high speed movements. first phase should completed in 2019. remaining high speed connection completed @ later date.
