while recovering heart attack, channel 4 insisted o grady should take week off presenting show. first break occurred 23 27 october 2006 , guest presenters hosted programme day each. since then, there have been 3 more scheduled guest-hosted weeks , in total there have been 27 different celebrity guest hosts.

in april 2008, there 2 unscheduled guest-hosted weeks. o grady hosted monday show during these 2 weeks, taken ill after contracting flu virus remainder of weeks. melanie sykes guest-hosted 5 of 8 remaining shows, having hosted show 3 times. in total has been stand-in host 11 times.

on 15 october 2009, o grady had go dentist dental work, joe pasquale standing in him host.

on 18 november 2013, o grady taken ill suspected angina attack meaning unable present live show day. replaced singer , entertainer michael ball episode , presenter stephen mulhern following day. emma willis hosted on 20 november, followed vernon kay next day, , jo brand guest hosted on 22 november. on 25 november 2013, paul returned , thanked 5 stand-ins filling in him on previous week. paid particular michael ball who, told audience, found out host 40 minutes notice.

every year, show had annual christmas pantomime. 15 guest stars appeared in panto. there 1 narrator, told story throughout panto. had been antony cotton, dawn french, kate thornton, sandi toksvig , stephen fry. panto ran whole show, 5 minutes left @ end when o grady , stars answered questions had been e-mailed in viewers. however, in 2006 panto, peter pan, panto ran 40 minutes, ending around 5.40 pm. after this, o grady interviewed dawn french, narrator, on normal show. there then, usual, organ game , o grady , stars answered e-mails sent in viewers. panto on last wednesday before christmas, meaning broadcast live.

2008: pinocchio
2009: sleeping beauty (broadcast on 14 december instead of 16 december)

jo brand celebrity appeared in panto every year. o grady thanked brand appearance in every annual panto on show after fifth , final panto on 14 december 2009.

the pantomime did not return in 2013 revival.
