love valley small, unique town located in remote valley in brushy mountains of northwestern north carolina. creation in 1954 marked fulfillment of dream founder andy barker. barker developed 2 visions young man—he wanted build christian community, , wanted cowboy. in 1954 combined visions create authentic, old west-style village in hills of northwestern iredell county. town chartered in 1963.


modeled after old west towns seen in countless hollywood films, love valley boasts saloon, general store, hitching posts, , rodeos. automobiles not allowed inside town limits; people still use horses , horse-drawn vehicles travel in town. small, nondenominational christian church sits on hill overlooking town, emphasizing barker s vision of christian utopia. however, town garnered share of controversy in 1960s , 1970s; among controversies love valley rock festival , local farmers complained brought drug addicts , other troublemakers area during festival. however, on last 2 decades town has settled down considerably , known popular gathering spot horse-lovers , horseback riding. there miles of horseback riding trails in surrounding brushy mountains.
