the game set on group of planets in lylat system. ingenious scientist andross, native of fourth planet corneria, driven madness , destroys planet using biological weapons. andross treason, general pepper exiles scientist remote planet venom. 5 years after andross exile, pepper detects unknown activity on venom. pepper hires star fox team (consisting of james mccloud, peppy hare, , pigma dengar) investigate. upon arriving, pigma betrays team, , result james ends missing , presumed dead, while peppy barely escapes. several years later, andross again invades lylat system, causing pepper call on new star fox team, led fox mccloud, battle andross.
