on november 16, 2010, new york times reported mayor michael bloomberg s administration working on plan bring 7 , <7>​ trains of new york city subway under hudson river secaucus junction. extension of service, then-terminus @ times square – 42nd street new terminus @ eleventh avenue , 34th street, has been constructed.


if built, extension take new york city subway outside city s borders , under hudson river first time. plan alleviate pressure on nj transit/amtrak route under hudson river, after cancellation of access region s core tunnel project new jersey governor chris christie in october 2010. offer direct route grand central terminal on east side of manhattan, while connecting other subway routes. new york city spent $250,000 consultant conduct feasibility studies project. however, no design work has commenced nor have financing arrangements been made. on october 26, 2011, new york city mayor bloomberg reiterated support project, while new jersey governor chris christie expressed general concurrence. in april 2013, metropolitan transportation authority rejected proposed extension, citing lack of funding.
