the mary valley heritage railway became custodians of of gympie railway station complex through lease queensland railways 50 years , on 23 may 1998 valley rattler began operations on former mary valley branch line after negotiations lease extended line imbil , became major tourist attraction of region.


after 2 serious derailments during august , september 2012, limitations , state of railway company s finances became known. shut down indefinitely transport & main roads, declared unsafe convey passengers. following flood damage in 2013, railway disbanded. in june 2016, gympie regional council allocated $250,000 operational start-up costs , $3.8 million capital funds restart rattler.
