the territory of fiume after end of first world war involved in series of events that, after various military occupations (the longest lasting 1 led gabriele d annunzio, called italian regency of carnaro), saw creation of ephemeral successor entity in free state of fiume.


the free state existed officially 4 years, before militarily occupied , annexed kingdom of italy part of province of carnaro in 1924, annexation marked end of historic fiuman autonomy.
