some spanish toponyms derived andalusian arabic wādī used mean permanent river, example: guadalcanal wādī al-qanal = river of refreshment stalls , guadalajara wādī al-hidjārah = river of stones , or guadalquivir al-wādī al-kabīr = great river . seasonal streams, frequent in south-east spain, called ramblas instead.


wadi word commonly used in hindustani language (both urdu , hindi variants) refer valley.
