lines

the monterrey metro, officially known metrorrey has 2 lines 31 stations.


line 1, opened on april 25, 1991, has 19 stations, runs through center of city north-west eastern part of monterrey metropolitan area. line, 18.5 km long, runs parallel former 1887 topo chico tramline , grade-separated runs on elevated structure. complete ride along line takes 27 minutes. line 1 linked line 2 @ cuauhtémoc station, located downtown.


line 2 has 13 stations , grade-separated, partially on aerial structure , partially subterranean. first six-station segment, opened on november 30, 1994, 4.5 km long , runs underground. construction on us$ 200 million expansion of line 2 began on august 8, 2005. first segment of expansion opened on october 31, 2007, , added 3 stations line. second segment of expansion inaugurated on october 9, 2008 nuevo león governor natividad gonzález parás , mexican president felipe calderón, , added 4 stations line. last segment runs on aerial structure in center of avenida universidad. completed 12.5-kilometer (7.8 mi) route runs sendero macroplaza station @ universidad autónoma de nuevo león.


line 3 under construction , expected open in march 2016. line 3 have 8 stations, line going both underground , elevated. of february 2015, line 3 50% completed.

according mexico s national institute of statistics, geography , informatics, metrorrey s 2 lines transported 170.6 million passengers in 2013, fourth quarter (q4) 2013 monthly ridership average of 14,492,000, corresponds average daily passenger load of 483,065 passengers in q4 2013.

currently entrance on sunday not free. because according governor jaime rodriguez calderon 5,000,000.00 mxn lost annually.


metrorrey offers boletos multiviaje (multitrip tickets). these tickets intended recurrent users , sold in denominations ranging 15 85 trips.


since opening of extension of line 2, metrorrey began offering mia card, rechargeable card can loaded multiple trip credits. mia card can purchased mxn30 (including 8 trips) , can recharged in increments ranging mxn1 mxn300.


from january 2010, card has cost of mxn20 , mxn100 top recharge.


on may 16, 2009, nuevo león governor natividad gonzález parás announced metrorrey free following 60 days, part of program reduce effects of economic downturn on citizens.


rolling stock

the metrorrey system uses 84 high-floor articulated vehicles, used form 2- or 3-car trainsets each, possibility of forming 4-car trainsets. train cars have air conditioning system. first 25 cars manufactured mexican company concarril (national construction dealers railway), next 23 canadian company bombardier, followed 22 built in spain caf, remaining 14 vehicles built bombardier. specifically, metrorrey ordered 25 2-section mm-90 cabs in 1988, , 23 mm-90/2f cabs in 1990 bombardier; latter type represents second generation of same vehicle equipped high-tech components, including, among other things, asynchronous traction motors power supplied catenary.
