school

the first school opened in 1882 in sunday school, not moving current building until 1900s. present school, hade edge junior , infant school, coeducational , has 4 classes.

shops

there co-op store on corner of greave road , dunford road closed in 1950s. fish , chip shop @ top of greave road closed after. grocery store , post office last close in 1989. sweet shop operated private house opposite band room, focus village children after school.

church

there church in magnum demolished in 1950s, along of other buildings. village in parish of holy trinity, holmfirth , there methodist church on dunford road.

public houses

at peak there 8 pubs in area serving many quarry workers, algy arms (long known bay horse, under new ownership) survives. long gone pubs demolished, or turned residences, included sportsman, roundclose, junction, weathercock , moorcock inns , road end pub.

quarrying

by 1861 magnum bonum quarry employed on 60 people producing stone blocks buildings , stone flagstones railway station platforms. hamlet of workers homes developed church , public house. other quarries sans pareil , ne plus ultra.

the nearest registered common land magnum bonum, half mile south of village.

hade edge brass band

the band formed in july 1908 members of sunday school committee using second hand instruments former district band, old moss band. various fund raising activities meant many new instruments had been purchased time band won first prize @ stalybridge in 1914. band has gone strength strength , current bandroom opened in june 2007.

football

the earliest records show hade edge had team in holmfirth , district association football league in 1909/10 season. hade edge afc play @ ground off dunford road. have senior teams in huddersfield , district saturday league along junior teams , training.
