sr 257 begins @ intersection of sr 902 , sr 924 (briery branch road) within george washington national forest west of briery branch. state highway heads northeast briery branch road, crosses hone quarry run , follows briery branch east through gap in narrow mountain. sr 257 veers away creek, exits national forest, , enters shenandoah valley. state highway heads southeast community of briery branch, highway has pair of right-angle turns @ disjoint sections of sr 731, heads south community center road , north daniel cupp road. sr 257 continues east ottobine, highway turns southeast @ four-way intersection sr 613 (clover hill road) , sr 742 (waggys creek road). state highway continues ottobine road, passes south of paul state forest. sr 257 passes through village of montezuma , crosses dry river.
