when family moved california, got work radio writer, first nbc , cbs, met bob carroll. pugh credits of breakthrough girl writer war effort, limited pool of qualified male writers. in career, female writer on staff.

early in career, staff writer cbs radio in hollywood, pugh forged partnership bob carroll, jr. lasted more 50 years. wrote 400 television programs , 500 radio shows. while team writing steve allen show, became interested in writing lucille ball s new radio show, favorite husband. paid allen write own show 1 week focus on creating script submission favorite husband. under supervision of head writer jess oppenheimer, pair wrote ball s radio program 2½ years.

pugh , carroll helped create vaudeville act lucille ball , husband, desi arnaz, became basis pilot episode of love lucy. oppenheimer and/or bob schiller , bob weiskopf, joined show @ beginning of fifth year, team tackled 39 episodes per season run of series. although never won, pugh , carroll nominated 3 emmy awards work on series.
