2004–05: itv

itv had trouble filling 5-6pm slot popular programme, 2 daytime soap operas failing achieve significant ratings in slot. night , day launched in 2001 moved teatime slot in 2002 after falling ratings. revived version of crossroads occupied slot march 2001, saw decline in ratings particularly after major cast , production changes towards end. both soaps axed in mid-2003, on year before paul o grady show first broadcast, , new show seen saviour of teatime slot.

itv commissioned paul o grady show in october 2004 following o grady s appearance guest presenter (somewhat similar formatted) lunch-time entertainment show today des , mel. itv management impressed initial standing in — last minute replacement regular host des o connor — brought several more times, , subsequently o grady given own show (o grady became friends co-presenter melanie sykes, has since stood in him on o grady s own show on occasion).

guess tune (known organ game on channel 4 edition), phone-in-competition o grady plays tunes on organ , contestant has guess them correctly win £2,000, became popular feature of programme. tune o grady played leading game truncated version of sing go , gracie fields. stalwart of show o grady s shih tzu/bichon frise cross dog, buster, appeared full 5 minutes @ start of each programme since itv incarnation of show.

2006–09: channel 4

on 10 january 2006, in unexpected announcement, o grady said had decided leave itv channel 4, following dispute between o grady , granada television (who made paul o grady show itv) after granada forgot renew o grady s itv contract. o grady believed have left itv not due contract renewal issues nor salary, rather wanted more creative control on show (granada had promptly refused when show under production). own television production company, olga tv (named after 1 of pet dogs), subsequently took on production of programme.

the programme began run on channel 4 in march 2006, in same 5:00–6:00 pm evening slot, alternating in slot every 3 months or richard & judy. in response, itv decided air repeats of original show in same slot. partially reason why, first few series on new channel, channel 4 billed programme new paul o grady show.

during time on both itv 2004–05 , channel 4, paul o grady show broadcast live on mondays, tuesdays, , wednesdays, thursday s , friday s episode pre-recorded on tuesday , wednesday of week, respectively, @ 12:30 pm.

2010–11: itv prime time

2013–2015: itv revival

after 4 years off-air, show returned on 11 november 2013, in same teatime slot 5–6pm, on original channel itv. new theme tune written , performed mcfly. games including guess tune, known organ game , returned. phone-in-competition o grady plays tunes on organ , contestant has guess them correctly, played live on wednesdays show. o grady announced show return series, beginning on 28 april 2014. third , final revived series began airing on 20 april 2015.
