great kingdoms

the north american atlantic coast location of great kingdoms. these kingdoms inhabited zarthani , main location of series. there 5 great kingdoms (hos-zygros, hos-agrys, hos-harphax, hos-ktemnos, , hos-bletha), @ end of lord kalvan of otherwhen, new great kingdom of hos-hostigos formed. part way through series, kalvan recognizes seventh great kingdom, hos-rathon. neither hos-hostigos nor hos-rathon recognized of other great kingdoms.

hos-hostigos

hos-hostigos formed princedoms of hostigos (also known old hostigos), nostor, sask, beshta, nyklos, , ulthor, former princedoms of hos-harphax, new princedom of sashta. since hos-hostigos formed out of territory of great kingdom of hos-harphax, therefore not recognised great kingdom of other kingdoms. founded after arrival of kalvan, became first king while dramatically improving armies of hos-hostigos, attempting eliminate pikemen altogether royal army (and replace them musketeers). kalvan has started construction of great kings highway, two-lane stone road running through kingdom. flag of hos-hostigos decreed red keystone (i.e. symbol of calvin morrison s native pennsylvania) on dark green field.

sask, consisting of blair , parts of clearfield, huntington, , bedford counties in pennsylvania, 1 of old hostigos former enemies ruled gluttonous prince sarrask. after extremely bloody battle of fyk , capture of sarrask, sask becomes important tool in kalvan s war against styphon s house. sask s capital sask town (on site of real-world hollidaysburg, pennsylvania), , flag golden-rayed sun on green field.

nostor

to north-east of hostigos, nostor—consisting of tioga , parts of northumberland, lycoming , montour counties forks of susquehanna—is 1 of old hostigos former enemies. @ time of kalvan s arrival, nostor ruled cruel prince gormoth , main arm of styphon s house attack on hostigos. after defeats @ siege of tarr-dombra , battle of fitra (aka dralm-damned battle, fought in heavy fog), hostigi troops invaded , burned of southern nostor, leading free-for-all civil war in nostor.

soon after formation of hos-hostigos, civil war ended when gormoth killed , replaced prince pheblon, agreed join hos-hostigos. nostor s capital nostor town (near real-world hughesville, pennsylvania), , flag orange lily on black field.

beshta

beshta located in besh (juniata) river valley, south-east of old hostigos , ruled prince baltar when kalvan arrived in hostigos. colors black , pale yellow.

beshta set scavenge plunder nostori , saski invasion of hostigos when kalvan arrived, , balthar sent brother balthames aid sarrask @ battle of fyk. after balthames tactical blunder led victory hostigos, balthar forced accept lordship of king kalvan , enter new kingdom of hos-hostigos.

after balthar s betrayal @ battle of tenebra, balthar executed , replaced prince phrames.

sashta

the princedom of sashta created out of eastern sask, western beshta, , southern hostigos order of king kalvan means of keeping balthar s brother, balthames causing trouble or wielding real power.

nyklos

nyklos located north-west of old hostigos , consists of potter , mckean county, pennsylvania. nyklos ruled prince armanes , voluntarily princedom of new kingdom of hos-hostigos.

ulthor

ulthor voluntary princedom of hos-hostigos , located in north-western corner of hos-hostigos , contains port in kingdom (real world erie).

hos-harphax

hos-harphax original great kingdom of princedoms joined form hos-hostigos. hos-harphax 1 of older great kingdoms , created when trading city of harphax city @ mouth of susquehanna river began exert influence on other cities, towns, , villages upstream harphax city. @ beginning of kalvan series, hos-harphax includes territory of real-world pennsylvania, maryland, delaware, , southern new jersey, , ruled great king kaiphranos, dies in kalvan kingmaker.
