in 2006, lo began writing songs christian bjerring, guitarist rytmus. pair formed math rock band, tremblebee, 3 other male students school. played few years in bars across sweden, independently releasing of songs, before breaking in 2009. during time band, lo developed passion performing on stage, , introduced swedish production duo struts. after dissolution of tremblebee, lo s musical focus turned toward pop. decided focus on own tracks, spending 6 months in shed studio producing demo, while doing session singing means of income. learned how play drums , garnered knowledge music programming , record production during time. lo later spent time living icona pop, in suburb near stockholm.

lo later met a&r handed demo to. artist met him upon occasion of party in stockholm celebrating icona pop s first record deal, , again chance in bar in london. a&r liked lo s demo , subsequently introduced songwriting group included struts , hjelt. in 2011, lo decided pursue career in songwriting , earned publishing deal warner/chappell music. new career path led travel los angeles, , work swedish producer max martin. in 2012, collaborated british production team xenomania , swedish producer alexander kronlund, co-writing girls aloud s new , icona pop s got world , tracks duo s self-titled debut album.

tove lo featured on lead single nick jonas s third studio album, last year complicated, titled close . song released on 25 march 2016. tove lo featured artist on australian artist flume s single , released on 20 april 2016.

in interview during 2016 billboard music awards, lo confirmed had finished recording darker , dreamier second studio album.

to promote upcoming album, lo acted opening act on 18-dates of maroon v tour across united states.

on 4 august 2016, lo released lead single second album, cool girl . following day, revealed title of upcoming album lady wood, , release date announced 28 october 2016.

five days prior album release, lo announced upcoming european , north american solo tour entitled lady wood tour take singer across twenty-one cities across 2 continents further promote new release. more tour dates later announced after release of album.

in february 2017, lo featured in song, lies in dark , fifty shades darker soundtrack. on february 16, 2017, announced lo opening british band coldplay on head full of dreams tour june october 2017 across europe, united states, , canada.

on september 7, 2017, lo released single disco tits , lead single third studio album blue lips, released on november 17, 2017. album second phase , conclusion double album, started first phase lady wood. on night of album s release, lo hosted release party concert @ elsewhere in brooklyn, new york city.
