the route followed modern la 122 montgomery faircloth rather continuing dry prong, turned northeast onto parish road 11 (landfill road) point on us 167 (pre-1955 state route 99) near williana.

two years later, state route 475 established along same alignment between montgomery , faircloth terminus in dry prong rather williana.

the original state route numbers along present la 122 through verda, louisiana.

as more detailed legislative description route 475 indicates, montgomery , verda located along jefferson highway , pershing highway, respectively. these 2 important auto trails pre-dated numbered u.s. highway system. in 1926, us 71 routed along jefferson highway (state route 1) through montgomery, , us 167 routed along pershing highway (state route 5) through verda. western portion of route 162-475 connected new u.s. highways gravelled around 1929. however, us 167 shifted onto present alignment through dry prong in 1932, allowing more direct route between alexandria , winnfield. afterward, gravel road extended eastward dry prong along route 475, became main traffic route, while eastern portion of route 162 between faircloth , williana remained unimproved. route 162 dropped state highway system prior 1955 louisiana highway renumbering, leaving entire length between montgomery , dry prong route 475 only. paving of montgomery–verda , faircloth–dry prong sections of route 475 completed 1954, leaving gap between verda , faircloth gravel road @ time of renumbering.

post-1955 route history

la 122 created in 1955 direct renumbering of former state route 475.

la 122—from junction la-us 71 @ or near montgomery through or near verda , faircloth junction la 123 @ or near dry prong.

since 1955 renumbering, route of la 122 has remained virtually same. minor changes have resulted smoothing of several curves on years. biggest improvement route occurred on when last section of gravel highway between verda , faircloth paved around 1957.
