speculation deceased hornet in wolverine #23 not eddie, instead else took on name , costume, has been disproven loners writer c. b. cebulski, , loners #2 states hornet indeed killed wolverine.

eddie mcdonough science whiz compensated palsied right arm knack inventing. given hornet costume black marvel, , joined slingers. eddie able modify harness, making light enough wear. added additional weaponry, , made costume more suit of armor (and enabled costume enhance strength). new hornet, eddie more confident normally. suit enhancing strength, nobody (but teammate dusk) noticed right arm weaker , atrophied. hornet fought mutant rats, gangsters, , demons powers. hornet had fight team leader prodigy save friend ricochet , villains fighting superhumanly strong hero . hornet tried win affections of teammate dusk, more attracted energetic ricochet.

hornet learned black marvel had made deal demon mephisto, return powers , youth, , let him train new heroes (the slingers), , when mephisto collected black marvel s soul, took slingers , sent them hell. offered them chance leave, if abandoned black marvel. while other slingers wanted leave black marvel fate, hornet able forgive old man, , convinced others free him. black marvel died in attempt, hornet s act of forgiveness enabled black marvel s soul ascend better place. in doing so, hornet s armor , prodigy s powers surrendered , lost. team disbanded , depowered hornet , prodigy apparently retired superheroics.

at point johnny , eddie returned fighting crime under old identities. hornet ended going alone against hydra , mind-controlled wolverine attacked stark international building , killed. nick fury, elektra, , other s.h.i.e.l.d. agents later found corpse @ scene. somehow, agents mistook hornet s body spider-man s, fury musing grimly on tragedy of man dying hero when nobody remember name. elektra beheaded corpse in order prevent hand resurrecting him army.

the hornet costume had jet-powered wing harness enabled eddie fly @ high speeds. micro-servos in armored suit enhanced strength superhuman levels. gauntlets contained wrist blasters fire darts filled fast-acting sedative, or powerful laser-beams.
