beginnings

muscles self released 4 months in 2006, compilation of 20 lo-fi experimental/dance/ambient songs burned on 80 handmade cd-rs, whilst playing various open mic nights in melbourne. muscles s first single 1 inch badge pin gained small radio play on australian national youth radio triple j in july 2006. playing various indie nights , club shows between melbourne, muscles supported girl talk in melbourne , sydney , performed new years eve @ honkytonks last dance closing down party.

2007 began concert @ sydney festival alongside midnight juggernauts, ajax , gus da hoodrat. week later muscles chosen support hot chip s melbourne big day out sideshow. special one-off performance organised in february @ click click (in brown alley), arranging 10 musicians local indie bands in melbourne come , play 4 songs in 10 piece superstar improv-band mixed response. february included gigs @ st. kilda festival, main support jenny wilson s australian tour, parties in sydney @ bandits , bad kids recreation club. late february modular threw launch party new compilation leave them behind 2 @ bondi beach, night included dj sets van tech , bang gang djs , muscles asked play live.

in march opened first ever golden plains festival (sister popular meredith music festival, australia s biggest non-commercial festival). 3 weeks later australia s first ever v festival, muscles not on line-up added last minute night before due band cancelling, booked play official afterparty there 3 shows day including dj set @ club 77. muscles met soulwax/2manydjs @ v festival afterparty asked support them on 11 date north american tour in april release of nite versions.

back australia in may, , directly supporting architecture in helsinki on east coast tour including memorable ages show @ metro in sydney.

muscles spent month in london between may , june playing club nights , parties. debut album guns babes lemonade (completed in february) mastered @ exchange during time. highlights of tour include supporting robyn in camden, supporting soulwax in underground railway, playing o2 wireless festival afterparty in london , o2 wireless festival in leeds. amongst gigs in london, leeds, bristol, brighton , nottingham, tour included gig in rome presets (that motörhead rocked after concert iron maiden night) , modular party in paris @ maxim s restaurant.

in august, muscles played @ splendour in grass festival, few days later travelling japan cut copy, presets , bang gang djs, play 2 shows @ womb , summersonic festival modular midnight stage.

mid-august saw release of ice cream , sweaty , double a-side australian cd single on modular. ice cream had been radio-only single since march, due triple j , community radio stations around country picking 6 months before muscles had record deal.

guns babes lemonade

he performed on parklife national festival tour in september alongside justice, m.i.a., digitalism , mstrkrft. debut album guns babes lemonade released in australia during tour. muscles did two-week north american club tour in october promote release of album. in november , december, played first headline tour of australia including 3 melbourne shows @ corner hotel, adelaide s rocket bar, family in brisbane, , all-ages show @ forum in sydney. tour included festivals in newcastle, new south wales , canberra, myspace secret show in coffs harbour , biggest australian-only music festival homebake. december 2007 saw muscles on support bill inaugural nevereverland festival, headlined daft punk. again booked festival s 2008 edition, taken off bill mid-tour due rifts label modular, taking myspace vent frustrations. missed meredith music festival due illness. of 13 december 2007, album had reached no. 3 on cmj rpm (electronic) charts in us. new years eve highlights included playing abandoned cinema complex in melbourne felix da housecat, spank rock , chromeo. muscles supported felix da housecat in sydney on new years day after playing bbq breaks in brisbane afternoon.

in 2008, muscles 1 of headline acts @ southbound festival in busselton, western australia along groove armada, kings of leon , many more. in february, asked play vibrations festival in sydney , gained main live support chemical brothers australian tour. in february announced embark on 17 date australian tour promote new single lake set release late april. encore show in melbourne added due popularity in hometown, , third perth show after perth , fremantle shows sold out. 14 shows selling out proved record breaking tour emerging australian artist.

muscles singles ice cream , sweaty appeared in triple j hottest 100 2007 @ no. 14 , no. 76 respectively.

a press release on 7 september 2010 modular/universal australia announced new 5 track ep entitled younger & immature , lead single girl crazy go released late october.

muscles new double a-side single koala , ll follow released modular 1 july 2011. first taste of muscles second album.
