the prestes maia gallery subterranean cultural space connects praça da patriarca valé anhangabaú in são paulo’s historic center. completed in 1940, during prestes maia’s second term mayor, not named him until time later.


from sixty years space functioned alternately art gallery, municipal offices, , homeless shelter. had badly deteriorated , in late 2000 administration of gallery taken on são paulo museum of art (museu de arte de são paulo — masp), planned major renovation.
