the novel ion introduces in life of peasants , intellectuals of transylvania before war. action takes place in pripas village , in little town armadia. ion pop al glanetașului, industrious son of poor parents, has passion land. fixes eyes on ana, rich man vasile baciu s, daughter. rich man not want him son-in-law. dishonours ana, force father give him daughter , fortune. reaches goal, ana falls in love him. ion, master of lands, satisfied. hisses gained land, beats ana, wife. suddenly, ion ruled love beautiful florica, old sympathy, married. florica answers ion s wild passion. ana understands cruel reality. beaten husband , father hangs herself. child dies too. quarrel between ion , father-in-law begins again. in end, ion not stop passion florica, , in night 2 caught florica s husband kills ion.
