Succession President of the Republic of China



generalissimo chiang kai-shek , army general li tsung-jen elected national assembly first-term president , vice president on 20 may 1948.


the constitution of republic of china gives short list of persons succeed presidency if office fall vacant. according additional articles of constitution, article 2:



should office of vice president become vacant, president shall nominate candidate(s) within 3 months, , legislative yuan shall elect new vice president, shall serve remainder of original term until expiration.




should offices of both president , vice president become vacant, president of executive yuan shall exercise official powers of president , vice president. new president , new vice president shall elected in accordance paragraph 1 of article , shall serve out each respective original term until expiration. pertinent provisions of article 49 of constitution shall not apply.



as no president of executive yuan (also known premier) has ever succeeded presidency under these provisions (or predecessors, under article 49), untested whether, should office of premier vacant well, whether, pursuant additional articles, article 3, vice president of executive yuan (vice premier), acting premier, act president. there no constitutional provision succession list beyond possibility vice president of executive yuan might succeed presidency.
