plot

the maison de ayakashi (メゾン・ド・章樫, mezon ayakashi), better known ayakashi hall or ayakashikan (妖館), high security apartment building humans demon or yōkai ancestors reside, each guarded own secret service (ss) bodyguard. these descendants known atavists possess similar powers ancestors.

part 1 prologue

volumes 1 4.

ririchiyo shirakiin 15 year old atavist girl, born well-known shirakiin family, feels frustration , suffocation @ being recognised family name, , decides leave home. moves ayakashi hall hoping peace , quiet in order break bad habit of speaking sharply , insulting interacts with. finds herself served sōshi miketsukami, descendent of nine-tailed fox devotes life her. although unwilling accept him ss, 2 grow close , sōshi helps ririchiyo suppress bad habit establish valuable connections residents @ ayakashi hall. ririchiyo inevitably helps sōshi become more emotional , more perceptive of world, had not acquired due house arrest , isolation, , 2 fall in love , begin relationship. ririchiyo gradually warms through interacting sōshi , other residents of ayakashi hall.

unfortunately, karuta roromiya, kagerō shoukiin s ss, attacked , heavily wounded fellow atavist named mikoto inugami. mikoto tries recruit night parade of 100 demons , army of atavists have lost human sanity , have become senseless yōkai. karuta loses herself , becomes part of army, attacking friends. sōshi killed mikoto in front of ririchiyo while trying protect her.

set 23 years after end of part 1. every 1 of residents of ayakashi hall revealved have been killed because of incidents involving night parade of 100 demons , have reincarnated. renshō sorinozuka has survived, growing 41 years old. 15 year old ririchiyo shirakiin leaves home , moves ayakashi hall hoping alone, , fix bad habit of speaking , acting sharply, meets sōshi miketsukami becomes ss. ririchiyo has no recollection of past life due trauma of death, starts remembering after encounter renshō. once remembers everything, ririchiyo decides break off contract , relationship sōshi miketsukami, realising loved sōshi in previous life, not current life. residents of ayakashi hall discover after years of calm, night parade of 100 demons start again, signalling has become unstoppable cycle. while residents of ayakashi hall work stop mikoto , night parade, middle schooler banri watanuki befriends mikoto, not realising is. later, after learning mikoto has gone 23 years ago using millenium cherry blossom tree, group decide send time capsule, containing letters, past.

part 3 awaken in spring

the setting jumps 23 years ago, in first timeline, group bury time capsule containing letters future selves. dig hole time capsule, find there box buried in ground. within box, find letters themselves, have no recollection of writing. of zange s ability, learn future, , decide can defeat mikoto , army. timeline follows different path first timeline, ririchiyo , sōshi not in relationship, and, because letter told sōshi had died pretecting her, ririchiyo decides keep distance sōshi. group manage prevent attack on karuta , seems quiet while. although of residents called home mikoto starts attacking other atavists , ayakashi hall no longer safe, manage regroup , return ayakashi hall. and, after rescuing sōshi house, held captive, ririchiyo , sōshi reconnect , begin relationship.

they learn mikoto acquainted shimon satorigahara, elderly atavist considered leader of atavist community, ability perceive thoughts , memories of others. revealed mikoto had been repeating night parade of 100 demons on , on again in same timeline, turning atavists senseless yōkai , making them kill each other, in order gift bodies shimon, can read stories , memories enjoyment. kagerō manages gather atavists on country fight mikoto s army, , sōshi kills mikoto, ending night parade of 100 demons , lifting curse, causing senseless yōkai return atavist form. shimon reads mikoto s memories, realises mikoto had loved along. residents , ss bodyguards continue towards new life together, alive , well.
