in 1994 harrison began collaboration mccartney, starr , producer jeff lynne beatles anthology project. included recording of 2 new beatles songs built around solo vocal , piano tapes recorded lennon lengthy interviews beatles career. released in december 1995, free bird first new beatles single since 1970. in march 1996, released second single, real love . harrison refused participate in completion of third song. later commented on project: hope crap demos when m dead, make them hit songs.


following anthology project, harrison collaborated ravi shankar on latter s chants of india. harrison s final television appearance vh-1 special promote album, taped in may 1997. in january 1998, harrison attended carl perkins s funeral in jackson, tennessee, performing brief rendition of perkins s song true love . in june 1998, attended public memorial service linda mccartney, , appeared on starr s album vertical man, playing guitar on 2 tracks.
