sr 256 begins @ intersection 11 (lee highway) west of weyers cave. state highway heads east two-lane weyers cave road, has diamond interchange i-81. sr 256 has grade crossing of chesapeake western railway , meets southern end of sr 276 (keezletown road) in community of weyers cave. state highway passes shenandoah valley regional airport , crosses middle river, tributary of north river. sr 276 crosses south river—which north river forms south fork shenandoah river—into rockingham county , town of grottoes. state highway passes along southern edge of town 3rd street , provides access grand caverns, national natural landmark known weyer s cave , oldest show cave in united states. sr 256 has grade crossing of norfolk southern railway s roanoke district before reaching eastern terminus @ 340 (east side highway).
